Margie Hatchett

January 1, 1933 — March 6, 2015

Margie Ruth Oakley Hatchett passed away on Friday, March 6th, 2015 at the age of 82. Margie was born in the Leatherwood Community of Hickman County, Tennessee on March 5, 1933. She grew up in White Bluff, Tennessee and was a long-time resident of Hendersonville, Tennessee. Margie worked for many years of her life in the Nashville banking industry. During this time, she was one of the very first female mortgage collectors in this field. Her kind heart as well as her determination and tenacity made her very successful in this position. Later in her career she worked at the Family Fun Center in Hendersonville planning birthday parties, special events and passing out tickets and prizes to children. To some, this may have seemed like an unlikely transition from the banking world, but with Margie's love of people, especially children, this was a job she truly enjoyed and held until her mid-70's. Margie (also affectionately known as "Big Margie") and her husband "Hatchett" never had any "human" children of their own, but during their marriage they had three precious "pet" children - Shane, Misty and Mandy who were loved and cherished by them as though they were "actual" children. Margie always loved and protected animals and because of this, she was a life-long donor to the ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Animal Cruelty). Margie had a larger than life personality that could "light up a room". She loved to laugh and those that spent time with her know that you weren't in the room with Margie for very long until you had a smile on your face and possibly bent over in laughter. If you ever wanted a straight answer or an honest opinion about something…. just ask Margie, she would certainly tell you. She also had a kind heart and an incredibly generous nature toward others! Margie was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 52 years Hubert H Hatchett, Jr. and her parents Fred and Lelia Oakley. She is survived by her sisters Hazel Spicer (Husband Paul, deceased), Fay Smith (Husband Kenneth) and her brother Ralph Oakley (Wife Linda). Five nieces Polly Payne, Jan Meadows, Betty Cunningham, Margie Spicer and Lisa Moon and four nephews, David Spicer, Tommy Smith, Alan Smith and Mark Smith. In addition to these, Margie is survived by many great and great-great nieces and nephews who love her dearly. Margie was deeply loved and will be missed by all that had the pleasure of knowing her and having her in their life! The family will receive friends on Monday, March 9, 2015 from 4 to 8 PM in the Chapel of Madison Funeral Home 219 E Old Hickory Blvd and where funeral services will be conducted at 11AM on Tuesday, March 10, 2015 with Bro. August Ruff officiating. Pallbearers: David Spicer, Tommy Smith, Mark Smith, David Hatchett, Rust Wells and Dalton Franklin. Visitation on Tuesday one hour prior to service. Interment will follow at 2PM Williams Cemetery, White Bluff, TN
