THOMPSON, Rev. Melvin Lowell of Franklin, TN went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, April 1, 2014; he was 89. A native of Sikeston, MO he was preceded in death by his parents, W.H. and Sinah St. Clair Thompson. Rev. Thompson is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Dorothy Thompson; sons, Rev. L. Alan (Martha) Thompson of Gallatin, TN and Mel (Cheryl) Thompson of Franklin, TN; grandchildren, Blake (Tanya) Thompson, Chris (Kayla) Thompson and Lisa (Brad) Lawrence; great-grandchildren, Blake Andrew Thompson, Rylee Thompson, Marley Lawrence, Reiger Lawrence and Emry Thompson; sisters, Maxine Shell and Aileen Fudge both of Memphis, TN. Bro. Thompson served as pastor in the Church of the Nazarene for 38 years; pastoring in, TN, TX, IN, and OH. He attended Trevecca University and served the church far beyond his local congregation. Rev. Thompson was a pastor who operated on principle and integrity and served with unquestionable ethics. All who knew him considered him a selfless servant of Jesus Christ. After his retirement Bro. Thompson continued to serve the Church of the Nazarene as interim pastor in several churches. Over the years he loved sports, fishing, gardening and laughing at the great-grandchildren. Among other interest he enjoyed raising feeder calves. His son Alan, stated that his dad had a great mind and could always out reason his sons. "He was our hero and always will be." Rev. Thompson was an Army veteran serving in WWII. Funeral services and a celebration of Rev. Thompson's life will begin on Thursday, April 3, 2014 at 7PM Gateway Community Church of the Nazarene, 584 Franklin Rd., Franklin, TN with Dr. Talmadge Johnson, Dr. Gary Allen Henecke and Rev.
